Recognition and Support
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Award Suite:
Established by The Department of Defense in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve members and their civilian employers. The ESGR provides different levels of recognition to employers through employee nominations of individual leaders or allies who provide support directly to a nominating service member or spouse of a Reservist or Guardsman
· ESGR Patriot Employer Award: In 2017, members of Liberty Mutual’s commercial organization received the ESGR Patriotic Employer Award. Presented to civilian supervisors, Patriot Employer Award recognizes efforts made by managers to support military, veteran and ally employees. Liberty leaders also signed a statement of support of the ESGR.
· ESGR Employer Appreciation Day: Liberty Mutual was recognized as a participating employer in this ESGR event designed to inform and educate employers on the important roles uniformed employees play in both their civilian and military capacities.
· Pro Patria Award: In 2018, Liberty Mutual was honored with the Massachusetts Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Pro Patria Award in the Large Business Category, which was presented by Earl Bonnett, Chair of the Massachusetts Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and Francis Magurn, Brigadier General (Ret.) of the Massachusetts National Guard. The highest level of award bestowed by an ESGR State Committee, the Pro Patria Award recognizes a company’s extraordinary support for its Guard and Reserve employees through leadership and practices, including policies that enable employees to simultaneously manage a full-time civilian job and service to our country.
Military Friendly Employer
Liberty Mutual earned the Military Friendly® Employer designation in 2017, 2019 and 2020. This is determined by combining an organization’s survey score with an assessment of the organization’s ability to meet thresholds for Applicant, New Hire Retention, Employee Turnover, and Promotion & Advancement of veterans and military employees. Each year, the list of Military Friendly® Employers is provided to service members and their families, helping them discover the best post-military career opportunities available.
Military Times:

Best for Vets Employer 2020
In 2020, Liberty Mutual was one of the 164 companies recognized by Military Times as Best for Vets: Employers 2020. The annual survey is a highly respected analysis of a company’s efforts to connect with veterans and provide an environment for success. Rankings are based on a voluntary survey seeking detailed information on individual company policies and practices related to: veteran recruitment and retention, support for translation of military skills to civilian credentials, support for military spouse employment and accommodations for members of the National Guard and reserves.
